EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD Zhou Yang became a national hero after she won the gold medal in the women’s 1,500m short-track speed skating (短道速滑) at the Vancouver Winter Olympics last month. Her remarks (言论) in front of the TV camera after the award ceremony have drawn a lot of attention.
Instead of thanking the country and the coach, Zhou expressed her love of her family and hopes for a better life when she talked to CCTV on that day. “It’s my dream. After winning the gold I might change a lot, become more confident and help my parents have a better life,” she said.
