The Dragon Boat Festival is a funny Chinese holiday. It’s always on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. Usually, that’s around June or July. It is celebrated in memory of a Chinese patriotic(爱国的) poet named Qu Yuan. Both children and adults like this holiday.
On the Dragon Boat Festival, first, there are dragon boat races. Dragon boats are very long. They are painted in bright colors. In each boat, there are many people rowing(划船). There is also somebody beating a drum(鼓). To win the race, a person in the boat must grab(夺取) the flag at the finish line. The winners of the races get big trophies(奖品) and money.
Races take place all over China. For example, there are races in rivers and streams in cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. Many people go to these places to watch the races. Many other people watch the races on television.
