A
In May, my friend Jess and I started looking for summer jobs. After a couple of weeks of looking for work in the retail (零售) and fast food industries, Jess and I decided to try something different. We decided to go into business for ourselves!
Jess and I both love dance. One day, my aunt asked us to organize a birthday party for her daughter. She thought we could organize a dance party, so we gave it a try. First we did a dance show for them. Then we taught them some ballet basics. The girls really love it!
Jess and I thought of ways to make our parties bigger and better. We went to the library and borrowed books on magic and Chinese paper cutting. Jess’s uncle knows how to make toy animals and taught us how. Then he gave us a book that teaches you how to juggle (玩杂耍). Jess loves to practice.
Later, we were asked to do a party for Canada Day. Before long, we were busy several times a week doing birthday parties. The people loved us! We even came up with the idea of offering to supply cakes and snacks because my aunt is a pastry chef (面点师).
Now we have our own website, and have decided to work throughout the year, doing one party a week. We call our business Jess “n” Jackie Party Planners. We love being our own boss and enjoy working together to make our business better.
