object, oppose
object vi.是“反对、抗议、不赞成”的意思。
1）单独使用：
——How about a drink? 喝一杯好吗？
——I don’t object. 我不反对。
2）＋no./pro./v. ing作宾语，需与介词to连用。如：
I object（against him）that he is a hypocrite. 我反对他，因为他是个伪君子。
He objected that I was not careful enough. 他提出了反对，说我不够谨慎。
I object that he is too young for the work. 我不赞成，因为他干这工作还太年轻。
oppose vt. 反对，不赞成
1）oppose＋宾语
Mother opposed the idea at once. 妈妈立即反对这个想法。
We oppose war, but we are not afraid of war. 我们反对战争，但并不害怕战争。
2）be opposed to＋v-ing不表示被动，而是一种态度。
I’m not opposed to the idea. 我不反对这个意见。
The people of Latin America were opposed to the war. 拉丁美洲人民反对这一战争。
We are opposed to counting on a lucky chance. 我们反对单纯去碰运气。
He is opposed to the students idling away their precious time. 他不赞成学生把大好时光浪费掉。
What they said is totally opposed to the facts. 他们说的话完全不符合事实。
I object to a wet summer. 我讨厌多雨的夏天。
I object to the proposal. 我反对这个提议。
They have objected to him on personal grounds. 他们由于私人间关系而反对他。
